After finishing the mixes for Linden, we in Bradien began to talk about the posibility of preparing another recording that would represent what, for us, had been left out of that album.
With this premise in mind, we started gathering ideas, sounds, recordings, melodies, loops and instruments, until we managed to finish these songs. In the end, on Trim there are 5 + 1 remix which, in our view, use the context to a great extent in order to take shape.

Time for some strange instrumental music that seeped into my inbox this week. It comes from a split cassette featuring two projects taking instrumental music in a strange direction. However, they still manage to keep their sound fun and engaging.
The two artists on this tape: FS Blumm and Bradien. The latter of the two is from Spain and build their tracks out of found sounds, original melodies, and samples. I don’t know exactly which is which on “Ponte ATF,” but I’m positively sure they share some common tastes with the late rap producer J Dilla…

I’ve been getting a few musical bits and bobs through my cyber letterbox lately and I’m happy to say that it’s all been pretty good, usually good enough to make the blog or the podcast.
Nothing yet though has made me gush and fall head over heels as much as my latest email this morning from Poprebop a small label from Barcelona who release dub, electronic and experimental cassette tapes  and free downloads.
Their latest release is a split cassette from F.S. Blumm (Germany) and Bradien (Spain).
Each side essentially is a collage of recordings of forgotten ideas, loops and collected sound…
If There is Hell Below

No final do ano passado, o Bradien publicou uma cassete split, com F.S.Blumm, pelo selo catalão Poprebop. O material inclui, segundo o próprio grupo, temas com atmosfera e experimentos que ficaram de fora do Linden, primeiro e extraordinário álbum da banda.
As seis faixas de Trim, parte Bradien da fita, levam o clima suave-tropical de Linden às últimas consequências. Tem percussão programada, crescente; escaleta hipnótica, guitarra com colar de flor havaiano, sonzinhos dispersos, linhas de baixo pura elegância e um senso harmônico invejável.

F.S. Blumm, che voi tutti conoscerete per avere inciso – sia a solo che in coppia con Bobby (al secolo Ellinor Blixt)-  dischi bellissimi per Morr Music, se ne esce con una cassetta (sì, una musicassetta, quelle che si inceppa il nastro e lo riavvolgi con il tappo della bic) per Poprebop Records, etichetta di Barcellona. Up Up Treasures, questo il titolo, è in realtà uno spazio di venti minuti in cui la creatività di F.S. Blumm gioca perlopiù sulla combinazione – ormai divenuta un tipo – tra il noise e l’elettroacustico, modello compositivo molto caro al nostro e che, negli anni, ha portato a risultati davvero eccezionali. Il materiale è stato raccolto lungo una decina di anni e spesso consta di campionature in/da luoghi all’aperto, negozi, cucine e quant’altro (c’è pure suo figlio che parla sulla registrazione…!). La cassetta è uno split dal momento che dal lato B (non immaginavo che avrei mai scritto “dal lato B”) c’è Bradien, musicista che si muove su territori simili, con meno concessioni alle consonanze, forse, ma , paradossalmente, con qualche accenno melodico in più…
