Bradien
Balbini, Pope y Matías Rossi son Bradien, los responsables de lanzar Linden (spa.RK), su primer disco largo desde que nacieran en 2009. Sus melodías se mueven a medio camino entre el pop y la electrónica en un collage que activa la imaginación positivamente. En good2b hemos entrevistado a Matías Rossi.

Linden es un disco que entiende la electrónica desde una óptica muy personal. Muchos quizás ni etiquetarían así el álbum, porque en esencia parece pop. Decidnos como entendéis vosotros el álbum y que % hay de cada uno…
Yo lo entiendo como un disco a mitad de camino de varios estilos. Y en ese sentido lo encuentro sincero con mi forma de entender la música en donde no consigo definirme a través de un género en particular.

Quizás si nos enumerais vuestras referencias musicales o bandas/artistas favoritos, lo veamos más claro…
Aparte de música, me gusta pensar que otras cosas me/nos influyen a la hora de componer. Por ejemplo últimamente he estado leyendo el libro “La interacción del color” de Josef Albers y he disfrutado buscando la forma de aplicar sus ejercicios a lo que hago. Otro ejemplo podría ser la entrevista a Jim Dodge en el fanzine Le Escuela Moderna. En su momento fue una buena guía para ordenar y priorizar cosas.
Específicamente  de música, podría decirte Kama Aina, Sven Libaek, Arthur Lyman, King Tubby, People Like Us, Uske Orchestra, Lou Harrison, Pierre Bastien, Ahmad Jamal, Alan Lomax, Hugh Davies, Penguin Café Orchestra…

Balbini, Pope and Matías Rossi have been working together as Bradien since 2005. They are a highly unusual band that is as much about pop as it is a contemporary sonic collage. By superimposing all types of musical reference points (exotic atmospheres reminiscent of Arthur Lyman, timeless soundtracks, folk panache and dub arrangements) this Barcelona group deconstructs its own idea of pop in a twisted but pleasing origami session which conquered the spa.RK catalogue in 2009 with a marvelous LP entitled Linden.

Linden is an album with a very personal take on electro music. Many would not even call it electro, as the core sounds a bit like pop. Tell us your view on the matter and what is the percentage of pop and electro in the album.
We think this album blends several styles. And in that sense, we find it quite honest and loyal to the way we understand music, as we can’t label ourselves by means of any genre in particular.

Perhaps we’d get a better idea if you tell us about your favourite bands/artists…
We like to think there are other things besides music which influence us when composing. For example, reading Joseph Albers’s Interaction of Colour. We enjoy looking for ways to apply his exercises to what we do. Another example could be the interview with Jim Dodge that appears in the fanzine La Escuela Moderna. It used to be a good guide to organize and prioritize stuff.

We’ll keep on making more music.
